The law in Washington, in plain English
A 2020 law (HB 2638) legalized sports betting at tribal casinos only, overseen by the Washington State Gambling Commission. Apps exist, but they are geofenced to casino property, and there is no statewide mobile sportsbook. Senate Bill 6137, in effect since June 11, 2026, lifted the ban on wagering on Washington college teams at those books; player props on in-state college athletes stay banned, and each tribe has to amend its compact first. Some tribal casinos admit sports bettors at 18; this site is 21+.
Prediction markets are contested here. The Gambling Commission says event contracts are not authorized in the state, and a King County judge ordered Kalshi this summer to block Washington users from most of its contracts, sports included. Novig is available to Washington traders, and Polymarket US has kept operating in the state. This is a live dispute, and this page is rechecked often.
