The law in New Jersey, in plain English

New Jersey won the 2018 Supreme Court case that opened sports betting nationwide, and every major app operates under the Division of Gaming Enforcement. The state constitution still bans wagers on New Jersey colleges and on college games played in the state; voters refused to change that in 2021.

Prediction markets are where Rutgers fans find a price. In April 2026 the Third Circuit ruled for Kalshi, holding that New Jersey cannot apply its gambling laws to a CFTC-regulated exchange, and the state has asked the U.S. Supreme Court to take the case. Novig and Kalshi are available in New Jersey; Polymarket US does not currently serve the state.
