The law in Minnesota, in plain English
No sportsbook app can take a Minnesota customer, and the state's tribal casinos do not run sportsbooks. Mobile sports betting bills have been filed in recent sessions; the 2026 version did not make it out of committee.
In May 2026 Gov. Tim Walz signed a law making it a felony to run or advertise a prediction market in Minnesota from August 1. On July 27 U.S. District Judge Katherine Menendez blocked it, finding it likely preempted by the federal Commodity Exchange Act, in suits brought by the CFTC, Kalshi and Polymarket US. While that order stands, Gophers fans can use Novig, a CFTC-designated exchange where you take a position at a price set by other traders, along with Kalshi and Polymarket US. The case is not over, and this page will change if the order does.
