No. 20 Iowa settled this one before halftime. The Hawkeyes scored the first 27 points on Friday night at Husky Stadium, ran for 263 yards and beat Washington 41-24 without committing a turnover.

Kamari Moulton did most of the damage. He carried 26 times for 208 yards and two touchdowns. Washington finished with -3 rushing yards. That gap in the running game decided it.

How it was won

Caden Buhr opened the scoring with a 51-yard field goal at 12:30 of the first quarter and added a 27-yarder at 7:07. With 10 seconds left in the quarter, Moulton broke a 56-yard touchdown run, and Iowa led 13-0.

Jeremy Hecklinski then went to DJ Vonnahme twice in the second quarter, from 20 yards at 9:05 and from 24 yards at 5:07. Those were Vonnahme's only two catches of the night, for 44 yards, and both went for touchdowns. Washington got on the board with a 30-yard Tyler Robles field goal at 1:56, and it was 27-3 at the half.

The Huskies' passing game came alive after the break. Elijah Brown found Chris Lawson for a 10-yard touchdown at 11:10 of the third quarter. Iowa answered with an 8-yard Hecklinski pass to Reece Vander Zee at 7:05. Brown hit Dezmen Roebuck from 2 yards at 1:25 and then Lawson on the two-point conversion, cutting the lead to 34-18.

Moulton closed it out with a 3-yard run at 12:06 of the fourth. Brown's 3-yard pass to Mason James came on the final play and set the final score.

Hecklinski was efficient: 14 of 19 for 202 yards and three touchdowns. Vander Zee led Iowa with three catches for 69 yards. L.J. Phillips Jr. added 42 yards on 10 carries behind Moulton.

Washington actually had more first downs (24 to 22) and more time of possession (31:41 to 28:19). Brown completed 28 of 39 for 251 yards and three scores, with Lawson catching eight passes for 86 yards and Rashid Williams five for 66. But the Huskies had 317 total yards to Iowa's 465, and Brian Bonner Jr. managed 17 yards on 10 carries. Neither team turned it over. Iowa converted only 3 of 9 third downs; it rarely needed to, given the big plays.

Against the number

Washington closed as a 3-point favorite, and Iowa won outright by 17, a comfortable cover. Iowa was +130 on the moneyline against Washington at -155.

The total closed at 41.5. The two teams combined for 65, so the over cashed with room to spare. Iowa alone nearly reached the number. For past prices and the full line history, see the game page.

What's next

Iowa moves to 5-1. Its only loss is 31-14 to No. 5 Ohio State, and it already owns a 20-19 win at No. 18 Michigan. The Hawkeyes have a week off before visiting Minnesota on Saturday, October 24.

Washington falls to 3-3 and has now lost three straight, after a 27-24 home loss to Minnesota and a 25-21 loss at No. 18 USC. The Huskies go to Purdue on Friday, October 16, on Fox.
