Oregon gained 426 yards at Gies Memorial Stadium and scored 10 points. Illinois gained 314, scored the last 21, and won outright as a 10.5-point underdog.

The game turned in a 14-second stretch before halftime. Oregon kicked a field goal to go up 10-0 with 2:29 left in the second quarter. On the next snap that mattered, Aidan Laughery broke a 75-yard touchdown run, and the Ducks did not score again. Third down settled the rest: Oregon converted 4 of 15, Illinois 8 of 16.

How it was won

Oregon opened the scoring at 11:17 of the first quarter on Jordon Davison's 2-yard run, with Gage Hurych adding the kick. Hurych made it 10-0 on a 20-yard field goal at 2:29 of the second quarter, which ended a drive that stalled close to the goal line.

Laughery answered at 2:15. His 75-yard run, with Ethan Moczulski's kick, cut the lead to 10-7 at the break.

Illinois took the lead at 9:22 of the third quarter when Michael Clayton II found Christian Abney for 9 yards. Clayton closed it at 2:29 of the fourth with a 23-yard touchdown pass to Collin Dixon. Moczulski made all three of his kicks.

The box score shows how lopsided the game was between the 20s. Oregon had 21 first downs to 15 and 246 passing yards to 89. Dylan Raiola completed 27 of 41 for 246 yards and no touchdowns. Dakorien Moore caught 9 passes for 70 yards and Jamari Johnson caught 7 for 69. The run game worked too: Davison had 92 yards on 14 carries, and Dierre Hill Jr. had 83 on 13. Oregon finished with 180 rushing yards.

Illinois got there on the ground and on third down. The Illini ran for 225 yards. Laughery had 123 on 13 carries, and Jordan Anderson added 67 on 11. Clayton went 11 of 18 for 84 yards and two touchdowns. Dixon led the receivers with 6 catches for 65 yards and a score.

Each team lost one turnover. Illinois held the ball for 30:45 to Oregon's 29:15. The yardage gap was 112 yards, and Illinois still won by 11.

Against the number

Oregon closed at -10.5, so Illinois covered with room to spare and won the game outright. The moneyline closed at Oregon -410 and Illinois +320. A bet on the Illini was priced to win about one time in four, and it did.

The total closed at 49.5. The teams combined for 31, and the under cleared by 18.5 points. Oregon's red-zone and third-down problems did most of the work. Illinois's methodical second half helped too: one touchdown in each of the final two quarters, with a 225-yard rushing day keeping the clock moving.

What's next

Illinois moves to 4-3 and has now won two straight, following the 38-37 win at Michigan State. That comes after a three-game run that included a 17-24 home loss to Purdue. The Illini travel to Maryland on Saturday, October 31, on FS1.

Oregon falls to 4-3. The Ducks had won 17-14 against Nebraska last week after a 15-17 loss to UCLA, so three of their last three games have now been decided by a score or less. Their next opponent was not listed in the schedule data available at publication. We will add the game and its price when the market opens.
