UCLA 17, Oregon 15: Seven Oregon turnovers outweigh a late Ducks rally
No. 21 UCLA moved to 5-0 by beating No. 13 Oregon 17-15 at Autzen Stadium as the Ducks gave the ball away seven times.

Oregon gave the ball away seven times, and that decided it. No. 21 UCLA won 17-15 at Autzen Stadium on Saturday to stay unbeaten at 5-0. No. 13 Oregon fell to 3-2 despite a late touchdown that made it close.
The Bruins committed three turnovers of their own, and Nico Iamaleava threw two interceptions. They still finished plus-four in the giveaway column. They also held the ball for 39:15, which left the Ducks 20:45 to work with.
How it was won
UCLA opened the scoring with Mateen Bhaghani's 21-yard field goal at 10:47 of the first quarter. Oregon answered at 7:57 on Jordon Davison's 1-yard run. The two-point run failed, leaving it 6-3 Oregon.
Wayne Knight put UCLA back in front with a 35-yard run at 8:08 of the second quarter. Bhaghani's kick made it 10-6, and that was the score at halftime. Neither team scored in the third quarter.
Knight struck again at 13:31 of the fourth, catching a 9-yard pass from Ty Dieffenbach. Bhaghani converted for a 17-6 lead.
Oregon came back late. Gage Hurych hit a 26-yard field goal at 5:16 to cut it to 17-9. Brock Thomas then found Evan Stewart for a 44-yard touchdown at 2:16. The Ducks went for two to tie, and the run failed for the second time. UCLA held on from there.
Knight was the steadiest player on the field. He carried 22 times for 103 yards and scored twice, once rushing and once receiving. Anthony Woods added 39 yards on nine carries as UCLA ran for 140 yards. Iamaleava went 10 of 17 for 162 yards. Aidan Mizell caught one pass for 62 yards, and Semaj Morgan had five catches for 55.
UCLA outgained Oregon 345 yards to 272 and led in first downs, 17 to 12. Neither offense moved the ball on third down. UCLA converted 4 of 16 and Oregon 1 of 12.
Thomas was efficient when he had the ball, completing 11 of 15 for 156 yards and the touchdown. Dakorien Moore caught four passes for 77 yards, and Stewart had five for 74. On the ground, Dierre Hill Jr. ran 10 times for 44 yards and Davison 13 times for 41. Oregon managed 73 rushing yards in all, and the turnovers kept cutting its drives short.
Against the number
Oregon closed as a 10-point favorite, and UCLA won outright, so the Bruins covered with room to spare. The moneyline price on UCLA closed at +320, against -410 on Oregon.
The total closed at 57.5. With 32 points scored, the under came in comfortably. That is a sharp change for a UCLA team that had scored 45, 28, 52 and 54 points in its previous four games. Closing prices and the market's movement are on the game page.
What's next
UCLA hosts Wisconsin on Saturday, October 17, on NBC. The Bruins have opened 5-0 with wins over California, San Diego State, Purdue, Maryland and now Oregon. Three of those wins came by 21 points or more, and this was the first close finish of their season.
Oregon hosts Nebraska the same day on Fox. The Ducks have split their bigger tests, winning 41-27 at USC and losing 39-31 at Oklahoma State. This home loss is their second of the season, and the turnover count will be the first thing they have to fix.
